The latest version of ChatGPT 2.0 or also better known as GPT-4 is said to be able to take away many jobs from the human labour market. This AI generative chatbot can provide very human-like comprehensive answers based on the user’s question, direction or cues, an extremely useful feature to-have for service related industry to adopt and expand, but the other side of the coin lies huge concern where this technology might one day come for most of our jobs. And this day, unfortunately, may perhaps be closer than we anticipated.
The origin purpose of every technology creation is always to assist and make-up for human’s limitation, but often, the outcome and advancement has become more powerful than we can fathom. It seems that GPT-4 is aware of this and based on a chat conversation with GPT-4, the chatbot has listed the following according to the easiness level for it to replace (and the result is shocking to behold):
Moreover, GPT-4 claimed that it could replace the planning, fast-checking, proof-reading, research, organization, creativity, writing and language proficiency skills needed for the above roles while mimicking human’s characteristics needed, or even better, for these roles such as speed and accuracy, attention to detail, time management, listening and typing skills, troubleshooting and problem-solving and interview and assessment.
Despite all the marvelous claims on chat GPT-4 can do, some did question the accuracy and effectiveness of the claims. Take News Reporter for an example, a human is needed to see and be present at the scene to be able to describe and report what happened. As for the Social Media Manager, AI could not create content without instruction and the needed instruction comes from human itself. These questions make full sense to judge the effectiveness of GPT-4’s claim but the magnitude of which shall be proven in time to come.
Resumebuilder.com has recently done a poll of 1,000 business leaders and according to its finding, roughly half of the US businesses have adopted ChatGPT in their company and have also started to replace their workers with the AI chatbot. This poll was conducted before GPT-4 was released, by the way. A recent study by OpenAI and OpenResearch from University of Pennsylvannia found that 80% of the US workforce could have at least 10% of their tasks automated and nearly a fifth could have at least half their job automated, which further supporting the idea of AI adoption.
Simply put, with the latest addition of GPT-4, the number of business adopting AI-based resources is expected and going to multiple significantly and the abovementioned roles are anticipated to be replaced undoubtedly, one way or another. It is just the matter of time.
